People who have the means to own historic Ferraris rarely have the need or desire to sell them. Of course, sometimes people go bankrupt and then other people sell their cars.

A man named Tom Price was the purchaser of the “Kroyman Collection.” He actually sold a single rare Ferrari to afford the collection. Although the sale price was rumored to be over $30 million, it was actually closer to $16 million. It could be seen as quite a bargain for the collection of cars. To learn more about the sale, click here.

A few of the key cars in the collection were known to be unoriginal. The 250 GTO which would have been worth more than the entire sale price of the collection, had a GTE engine which made it considerably less valuable. The 365 convertible was actually a conversion and several other cars had colored pasts.

The collection included the following vehicles:

Almost every weekend there is a group of exotic car enthusiasts driving up to the Helen or meeting for coffee somewhere in Atlanta. Whatever your pace, there is a group of people who you can get plugged in with to enjoy your car or our car with. If you would like some advice on who you can meet up with, we will be happy to give you some ideas.

Also, if you are in the mood for something a bit more ambitious, call us and we can give you some options for cross country rally drives. Want to take the Gallardo from New York to LA this summer with a group of other car nuts? Want to do a run to Miami in the 360 spider for the weekend? How about taking the 612 out to Vegas for a week of high rolling? We can make it happen whenever you are ready.

Enjoy the weather and don’t let it pass you by without getting a chance to enjoy a drive in an exotic car!

One of our major selling points here at Supercar Rentals is the opportunity to avoid the massive depreciation that is inherent to exotic car ownership these days. That doesn’t quell the frequency of questions as to what kinds of exotics people should look at if they want to avoid or minimize depreciation. Here is a handful of cars that I believe are eligible for inexpensive or potentially profitable ownership.

2010 Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV – this is the only car produced in the last few years that has any shot of increasing in value over any foreseeable time frame. This is something that will only happen 5-10 years from now and it definitely has its contingencies. There will only be about 3o US street legal copies of this car. That will keep them rare enough to avoid sale-frequency depreciation. In order for them to increase in value over their ~$475k sticker price, though, a few things need to happen. (A) The price of the new Murcielago replacement in 2012 needs to be over $500k. (B) You keep the mileage low. (C) The ones that exist remain enough in the public eye to stay attractive.

2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT – This is one of the rarest models that Lamborghini has ever produced and only a handful (<5) are currently road legal in the US. They are worth about $300k now and will likely stay there or go up in the future. They are rare enough, modern enough, and cool enough that they will always be in demand as drivers.

2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta – Only 399 of these cars were produced. They are worth about $150k or so now and are pretty safe there. There were a lot of special features and options on this, the only convertible version of the 550 Maranello.

BMW Z8 – The M5 powered handbuilt supercars from BMW were not fully appreciated when new but they have maintained near MSRP values since then. A nice one will still set you back $90-100k but you will get that for it after you get done enjoying it.

1996-1998 Porsche 911 (993) turbos – The 993 was the last air cooled 911. It was easy to milk lots of power out of and they are still highly prized. Still modern enough to use regularly today and with a very classic iteration of the 911 design, these will hold value well, especially if left in very original condition. Look to pay $60-90k for a clean one today.

Which cars do you think will appreciate in value in the years to come?

Sales of new exotics have fallen immensely since 2007 but there are a few signs that things are improving. Some prices of used exotics are holding a little bit stronger and dealers are able to move some inventory. While proclaiming economic recovery is certainly premature, this might be a sign of the rubble starting to settle. As exciting as that might seem, the world of supercars is still trying to figure out what to make of itself.

Production is seriously cut at this point. Vehicles are not being built without names and deposits from dealers. Also, the credit market is simply not what it used to be. Without A+ credit and fully verifiable income, banks won’t write any loans.

The lower supply of vehicles and the difficulty in getting loans bought on the cars coupled with the massive depreciation that the entire market has seen for the last 30 months has left a lot of people shaking their heads wondering what to do next.

That is usually where we come in. Renting exotics is really the only way to get into a car without a huge interrogation and long term commitment into a vehicle with uncertain future value. That is truly the essence of what we offer here. Simple, accessible, convenient use of some of the world’s greatest cars with the chance to simply give it back after you are finished enjoying it.

We appreciate the rentals for music videos, events, and out of town visitors but our passion is offering our customers the chance to drive and enjoy the cars as an alternative to traditional ownership. If you are considering purchasing an exotic car, please give us a call and we will give you the information to compare and decide what is best for you.

Drive easy!

The flagship Lamborghini for 2010 is the LP670-4 SV. It costs approximately $475-500,000. I work closely with Lamborghini Atlanta. The initial plan was to sell about 80 in the US. They were actually only able to sell about 22. There are still 7 or 8 of them available.

Currently, Lamborghini Atlanta has three customers working deals on the 670. Here are there descriptions:

Customer 1: A European citizen who is a repeat buyer but may be deported. His purchase is contingent on getting his visa renewed. The process has taken 4 months and counting.

Customer 2: A young US citizen who makes $4 million per year but reports none of it on his taxes so he cannot qualify for traditional financing and doesn’t want to pay out of pocket for the car.

Customer 3: Claims to be preparing to pay for the vehicle in cash and repeatedly makes excuses to delay the purchase. A quick Google search of his name reveals 25 convictions for writing bad checks and convenient access to his page on a Satanist Social Networking Site with a lovely shirtless picture of the overweight, tattooed fellow.

Obviously none of these deals are likely to work out and that begs the question of what the current market is for the vehicle. Due to the rarity of the vehicle and the characteristics that make it distinctive, I believe that the car will hold its value well. That being said, for some reason more legitimate buyers are not necessarily coming to get them. I think that the future of Lamborghini will certainly be an interesting one.

A few months ago, we had our web site completely redesigned and I realized that my best efforts I really needed someone more qualified to build it. I could not be more pleased with the result and the service that I received from Tom McFarlin and Forty-Second Solutions. The development, brainstorming, and mock-up process was clearly geared toward what I wanted to see and feel out of our web site. The entire process was logical, convenient, and result oriented.

The end product was more than I had ever expected and has facilitated an increase in daily traffic of over 1,000%. The site is so much more powerful than anything that I could have done myself and the user interface is much simpler than I expected.

Tom clearly knows what he is doing, is passionate about the craft and theory, and cares enough to make sure that the result exceeds the customer expectations. There is nothing better than doing business with someone who loves what they are doing. With Forty-Second Solutions that is exactly what you get.

If you have any web design or hosting needs, contact Tom at www.fortysecondsolutions.com.
